Camper Transportation

Free bus service to camp is provided for all campers from our pick-up locations in Philadelphia – South New Jersey area, Northern New Jersey, Queens, New York, and South Eastern Massachusetts. Free bus service to and from camp will be provided for all campers flying into Newark Airport. An additional fee will be charged for pick up at any airport other than Newark Airport. Typically, most campers will leave camp after their last performance. In fact all departing campers are gone by 9 AM on the day of departure. For all campers (except those traveling by air) there will be a $25 non-refundable fee to reserve a space on a returning bus; if you choose to use our transportation.

    Airport Transfers

The safety of your child is our first priority. This fact is used as the most important driving force in all of the arrangements we make for your child.

We request that all campers fly into Newark-Liberty International Airport (EWR). Newark is the largest airport close to camp. Newark’s main airline is Continental Airlines and it offers the most non-stop flights to more destinations than any other airline that serves Newark. Currently, Continental is part of the Sky Team network, but within a few months it will become part of Star Alliance. All campers that fly into and out of Newark airport will be provided with free transfer to and from camp. Campers that fly into any other airport will be assessed a transfer fee based on cost of providing separate vehicles and staff for the pick-up.

Best times to fly in and out of Newark Airport:

International campers and those campers west of the Mississippi River can fly in one day prior to the start of the session. (this will help the camper get better adjusted.) Plan to fly your child to Newark between the hours of 11 AM and 7 PM.

Campers arriving from the east coast should plan on arriving into Newark Airport on day the session starts arriving between the hours of 11 AM and 7 PM.

Departures for all campers should be between the hours of 11 AM until 10 PM. The departure day will be the date the session ends. NO FLIGHTS SHOULD DEPART BEFORE 11 AM.

Unaccompanied Minors are children deemed by the airlines, as too young to travel without an adult. (Please contact your airline for specific age requirements and fees.) The Airline will require that one of our camp employees get a security pass to meet the unaccompanied minor at the gate. This program insures the safe transfer of your child for both incoming and outgoing flights. Parents are asked to pay the required fee for both the incoming and outgoing flight at the original departure destination. Your child will need the following information when checking in as an unaccompanied minor:

    1. Name of person bringing the child to the airport.
    2. The home telephone and address for this person.
    3. The name of the person meeting your child and the business, home phone and address of that person.

**** This information will be e-mailed to you 48 hours prior to the flight to camp. When your child arrives at Newark Airport, a French Woods Staff member will meet them at the gate. Your child will then be allowed to make a brief call home using their cell phone or one of the camp’s cell phones. Once this call has been made we will then collect the cell phone from your child and return it prior to their flight home****

Campers over the age of 15 (depending on airline rules) traveling independently will be met at the Baggage Claim Area of the assigned flight. We encourage campers traveling alone to have a cell or mobile phone. The staff member will be wearing a French Woods Staff shirt and holding up a French Woods sign. Your child will be asked to call home briefly to confirm the pick up. Cell phones will then be given to the staff member to be returned prior to your camper’s departure from camp.

    LUGGAGE

For those campers using camp bus service, luggage should be brought with them to the camp bus. Your child should have no more than 2 duffle bags or soft suitcases and any musical instruments or sports equipment they may need. In order to secure the safety of fragile items, they should be brought directly to one of the French Woods staff members upon arrival at the bus location. At check in, campers will be given colored-coded tags indicating age grouping. To expedite delivering your camper’s luggage to them, please help to insure that these tags are securely placed on your child’s luggage. For those campers flying into camp, we ask that you send your child’s luggage no earlier than two weeks prior to their arrival at camp. The luggage will be stored and delivered once your child arrives at camp. We suggest UPS ground delivery.

We ask that luggage being sent to camp be addressed as follows:

    Child’s Name c/o Larry Siegel
    French Woods Festival
    350 Bouchoux Brook Road
    Hancock, NY 13783.

E-mail the tracking numbers and a description of what you are sending to larry@frenchwoods.com. (E.g., 2 duffels, 1 red suitcases, 3 boxes, etc.). You will receive confirmation by e-mail once your luggage arrives at camp. This is just a suggestion; you are more than welcome to check the luggage onboard the aircraft when flying to camp.
