    CAMPERS FLYING

Free bus service to and from camp will be provided for all campers flying into Newark Airport. An additional fee of $200 will be charged for pick up at any airport other than Newark Airport. Additionally, if you fly into any airport other than Newark, we require you to check your child in as an **Unaccompanied Minor regardless of age.

The safety of your child is our first priority. This is the most important driving force in all of the arrangements we make for your child. We request that all campers fly into Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). Newark is the largest airport most convenient to camp. Newark’s main airline is Continental/United Airlines and it offers the most non-stop flights to more destinations than any other airline that serves Newark. Currently Continental/United is part of the Star Alliance Network. All campers that fly into and out of Newark Airport will be provided with free transfers to and from camp. A reminder that campers that fly into any other airport will be assessed a $200 transfer fee based on the cost of providing separate vehicles and staff for the pick-up.

Best times to fly in and out of Newark Airport:
International campers and those campers west of the Mississippi River can fly in one day prior to the start of the session. Plan to have your child arrive at Newark between the hours of 11 am and 7 pm. Please see our parents guide for more info.

Campers arriving from the east coast should plan on arriving into Newark Airport on the day the session starts - arriving between the hours of 11 am and 8 pm. Departures for all campers should be between the hours of 11 am until 8 pm. The departure day will be the date the session ends. Please see our parents guide for more info. NO FLIGHTS LEAVING CAMP SHOULD DEPART BEFORE 11 AM. (Camp is 3 hours driving distance from Newark Airport.)

**Unaccompanied Minors are children deemed by the airlines as too young to travel without an adult. (Please contact the airline for specific age requirements and fees.) The airline will require that one of our camp employees obtain a security pass to meet your unaccompanied minor at the gate. This program ensures the safe transfer of your child for both incoming and outgoing flights. Parents are asked to pay the required fee for both incoming and outgoing flights at the original departure destination.
Your child will need the following information when checking in as an unaccompanied minor:
    • Name of person bringing the child to the airport.
    • The home telephone number and address for this person.
    • The name of the person meeting your child and the business, home phone and address of that person.

****This information will be emailed to you 48 hours prior to the flight to camp. When your child arrives at Newark Airport, a French Woods staff member will meet them at the gate. Your child will then be allowed to make a brief call home.

Campers over the age of 15 (depending on airline rules) traveling independently will be met at the Baggage Claim Area of the assigned flight. The staff person will be wearing a French Woods staff shirt and holding up a French Woods sign. We encourage campers traveling alone to have a cell phone.

    LUGGAGE

For those campers using French Woods camp bus service, luggage can either be brought on the bus or shipped in advance. Your child should have no more than 2 duffle bags or soft suitcases, plus any musical instruments or sports equipment they may want to bring. Any fragile items should be brought directly to a French Woods staffperson upon arrival at the bus pick-up location. See our Packing List for more information.

For those campers flying to camp you can either put the luggage on the plane or ship it to camp.

For SHipping bags to camp: We have set up a relationship with www.campshippers.com. They are very attentive to the needs of the campers and provide an efficient luggage shipping service. If you still choose to ship yourself, please make sure you put your child’s name on the boxes. The luggage will be stored and delivered once your child arrives at camp.
